About Herb K

Herb Kaighan

Who is Herb K?

Herb K. was given the gift of freedom from alcohol February 21, 1984. As a result of the application of the 12 Steps as contained precisely in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1988.

Since then, he has been very involved in carrying the message of recovery, as well as how to sustain, improve and enlarge our awakening.

His website, herbk.com contains an abundance of resources that shine light on the 12 Step path to personal freedom, from bondage of addiction and from bondage of self. Each of us has an invitation to walk our journey of unique growth and development, in pursuit of happiness.

Herb was given the Gift of freedom from alcohol on February 21, 1984. As a result of being guided through the Twelve Steps as contained “precisely” in the AA Big Book he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1988. Since then he has been very involved in carrying the message of recovery via a Spiritual Awakening through presentations, facilitating workshops, and leading retreats. He has authored:

• “Twelve-Step Guide to Using the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book.”(2004)

• “Twelve Steps To Spiritual Awakening; Enlightenment for Everyone ”(2010)

• “Practicing the Here and Now: Being Intentional with Step 11, Using Prayer & Meditation to Work All the Steps.”(2017)

Many have found them helpful for accessing the instructions and confirming the actual process contained in the Big Book.

Herb was married (52 years to the same woman!), has three adult children, seven grandchildren, and lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

His personal journey includes seven years in seminary, a graduate education in psychology, and a 40 year career in human resources consulting, from which he retired in November, 2006.

He has conducted workshops on a variety of topics in LMU’s Los Angeles Center for Spirituality. He is an adjunct professor at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California teaching a two unit full semester course on Twelve-Step Spirituality to their 4th year theologians.

He completed the three year training program in 1990 at Mt. St. Mary’s College (Los Angeles) for Certification as a Spiritual Director and has an active practice.
